HARASSMENT, INTIMIDATION & BULLYING

The Port Huron Area School District Board of Education prohibits acts of harassment, intimidation and bullying (HIB). A safe and civil environment in school is necessary for students to learn and to achieve high academic standards. HIB, like other disruptive or violent behaviors, is conduct that disrupts both a student's ability to learn and a school's ability to educate its students in a safe environment. Demonstration of appropriate behavior, treating others with civility and respect, and refusing to tolerate harassment, intimidation or bullying are asked of district staff and volunteers in order to serve as a model to students of what is expected. In turn, students should refrain from HIB and should report it to district personnel, if observed. In this way, we can ensure that each student has the chance to learn and that each adult can support PHASD students in their learning.

NOTICE TO PARENTS REGARDING STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
Parents are reminded that our schools make every effort to inform students and parents regarding the rules and regulations of the Port Huron Area School District which affect students. Student Code Handbooks are given to all middle school and high school students during orientation or the first week of classes, either in person or by U.S. mail. Parents of elementary students will receive information through their school's handbook or newsletter. If you do not receive this information at the start of school and would like a copy, please contact your school to request it.

WEAPONS AND THREATS POLICY
It is imperative that all parents and students understand the seriousness of weapons and biological threats in school. The position of the Port Huron Area School District is that a student carrying a weapon can be charged with carrying a concealed weapon, which can be determined to be a felony. Likewise, students making bomb threats, instigating a biological scare or other similar threats may face comparable charges. Bringing look-alike weapons to school can also result in serious consequences.
