THE PURPOSE OF STUDENT STAGEHANDS IS TO FAMILIARIZE STUDENTS WITH NUMEROUS ASPECTS OF TECH SUPPORT FOR THEATER PRODUCTIONS AND VARIOUS PERFORMANCES IN THE PAC. IN ADDITION, IT AFFORDS THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH CPHS-6 AND TO LEARN HOW TO OPERATE A TELEVISION CAMERA WHILE TAPING VARIOUS ATHLETIC COMPETITIONS AND OTHER EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT. STUDENT STAGEHANDS IS REALLY A MEANS FOR STUDENTS TO HAVE ACCESS TO HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE WITH THE LESS OBVIOUS ELEMENTS OF THEATER AND TELEVISION. ACTIVITIES ALLOW STUDENTS TO GAIN SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE IN THEATER AND TELEVISION PRODUCTION WITHOUT HAVING TO FACE AN AUDIENCE. IT ALSO ALLOWS THE STAFF OF THE PAC AND CPHS-6 TO DEVELOP A TRAINED SUPPORT GROUP TO ASSIST WITH PERFORMANCES AND TAPINGS, CREATING A WIN-WIN SITUATION FOR ALL.
FACULTY ADVISOR - DENISE SELBY, DIRECTOR OF PR AND FINE ARTS AND THEATER MANAGER, ASSISTED BY MARK PEARSON, PAC TECHNICIAN AND ED SENYK, STATION MANAGER OF CPHS-6.
Meeting Time and Place: Meetings take place in the PAC as announced on a random basis throughout the year, usually determined by upcoming events and productions where skills can be demonstrated, learned and then put to use. Normal meetings are held sporadically after school at 2:30, but activities for which members volunteer could be at any time, often after school, in the evening and sometimes on weekends.
